It's been over half a decade since the first "Avatar" film was released. Unfortunately, up to now, its sequel, "Avatar 2" is still not out. There are rumors that the delay of "Avatar 2" was due to "Star Wars." Are the directors of the two hit films in a feud?
'Avatar 2' Director Criticizes 'Star Wars' Director
Fans have been waiting for "Avatar 2" but the production team keeps on pushing back its release date. There are rumors that the sequel to the "Avatar" is delayed due to "Star Wars." Others believe that it is not wise for Disney to air the two big films on the same date as it might reduce sales.
We can't tell what exactly is happening between "Avatar 2" and "Star Wars" but James Cameron has something to say with J.J. Abrams' works. According to Econo Times, Cameron criticizes Abram's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
"I have to say that I felt that George's group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before, and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters. So for me the jury's out, I wanna see where they go with it," the "Avatar 2" director said.
Cameron admitted that he is a friend of George Lucas and declined to say more about the "Star Wars" films because he has a lot of respect for J.J. Abrams. The "Avatar" director expressed his interest to seeing where the production team is taking "Star Wars" in its next sequels.
James Cameron Do Not Want To Compete With 'Star Wars'
In one of his interviews earlier, James Cameron admitted that he doesn't want to release "Avatar 2" and the remaining sequels within the same date as the "Star Wars" sequels. "My original plan was to release them a year apart, but we're opening that up. If for no other reason than that I don't want to land on the same date as one of the 'Star Wars' sequels," he said per the Wrap.
"That wouldn't be fair to them," Cameron even joked. However, he explained that it is good for the business and hoped that "Star Wars" will also not compete with "Avatar 2" its remaining sequels.
