"Black Widow" might be filmed into a standalone movie soon. If Marvel is interested in the project, Joss Whedon, who was the director of "Avengers" is ready to take up the project.
Whedon was speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con. He said that there are reasons why he would like to head a project like "Black Widow."
First and foremost, the director feels that the "Black Widow" will be a character that many people will relate to as it is more "human." He thinks that the character is very interesting and earthbound. Because of these characters, it will be easier to make a stand-alone movie. "Black Widow" does not need on supernatural abilities that other members of the Avengers have, reported Independent.
To add to this, Whedon likes to work with Scarlett Johansson. She appeared as the "Black Widow" in "Iron Man 2." According to Whedon, Scarlet is a very committed actor. Also, she is very easy going with a great sense of humor which will make working with her easier, reported IGN.
As the "Avengers" gained popularity, the fans started discussing many stand-alone movies of the characters. The talks of a "Black Widow" movie were also circulating. Also, there were people who are part of the franchise who would like to see the spy heroine in action. This includes Whedon, Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Civil War), writers Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and many more.
Recently, we have seen the rise of female protagonists. Marvel and DC are competing to bring in more female characters onscreen. We also read news about Iron Man being portrayed by a woman now on. Wonder Woman of DC Comics is also making headlines. It is only a matter of time that Marvel decides to make a stand-alone for "Black Widow."
Also, there are various options that Joss Whedon can explore to characterize "Black Widow" when she goes solo. Whedon can change the character totally and build a new persona for the character. This can be a complete deviation from the character played in the "Avengers" movies. He can also retain the same character but there is a risk that it could turn boring. The next option is to create a prequel and help in the creation of the character from the very beginning.
While Jos is busy building her solo character, "Black Widow" will be seen in "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1" on May 4, 2018.
