‘Suicide Squad’ Latest News & Rumors: Jared Leto’s Joker A Former Robin Gone Rogue? Director David Ayer Addresses Crazy Fan Theory

You know that crazy fan theory that says Jared Leto's Joker in "Suicide Squad" is a former Robin that went bad? It turns out the movie's director, David Ayer, was also aware of that chitchat. Just recently, the filmmaker took the time to address that conspiracy theory and confirmed that the rumor is just that -- a rumor.

'Suicide Squad' Director David Ayer Shuts Down Rumors

In an interview with WSVN-TV's Chris Van Vliet, Ayer said that Joker being a former Robin was the craziest fan theory he's ever heard. The theory claimed that Leto's Joker was Jason Todd, who was known in DC Comics as the second person to take on the Robin identity and the iteration that Joker killed.

The rumor further gained popularity when the first trailer for "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" was released, which featured a Robin costume with the words, "Ha-Ha. The Joke's On You, Batman" written on it, clearly a reference to Batman's long-time foe, Joker. The costume's owner was later revealed to be Jason Todd, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ayer also addressed another "Suicide Squad" rumor, which claimed that the film held broad reshoots to insert more humor to the movie. According to the director, "the movie was always funny" and they can't do a scene "where they're all cracking jokes and then you're back in the old scene." Watch Ayer shutting down the rumors in the clip below.

More Rumors & Speculations For 'Suicide Squad'

There are rumors that Ezra Miller's The Flash will have a cameo appearance in "Suicide Squad" as one of the oldest enemies of Captain Boomerang, who's played by Jai Courtney in the film. In the trailer for "Suicide Squad," Boomerang was briefly seen being pushed back by a flash of lightning (from the Scarlet Speedster, maybe?), Cinema Blend wrote.

There's another scene in "Suicide Squad" that showed the anti-hero gang encountering a shrine-like structure where lightning is striking into the sky. But the site where Boomerang ends up in appears to be the inside of a building rather than the train station where The Adversary's force is holed up in. This suggests that there could be another moment where Boomerang was robbing a bank -- hence the bag he's holding in his hand -- but Flash fights him.

"Suicide Squad" also stars Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) Will Smith (Deadshot), Jay Hernandez (Diablo), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), and Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman). The film bows in theaters on August 5.
