The reboot of the 80s series "MacGyver" on CBS is going to have a "Person of Interest" actress as one of its guest stars. Amy Acker, who played Root in the cancelled AI series, which also ran on CBS, will be coming aboard the new show. But that's not all the producers have in mind when "MacGyver" debuts in the fall.
'MacGyver' Season 1 Nabs 'Person Of Interest' Star
TV Line reports that Amy Acker will be joining "MacGyver" for a guest spot, where she will be playing a CIA operative who has been kidnapped by a notorious arms dealer. MacGyver (Lucas Till) and his partner Agent Jack Dalton (George Eads) are going to rescue her from her captors. It will be aired as the second episode for "MacGyver" Season 1.
This is the first screen appearance for Amy Acker since the cancellation of "Person of Interest" in June, where she also played a government operative. Acker's other works include the TV shows "Dollhouse," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Suits."
'MacGyver' Reboot: What Is It About?
"MacGyver" is a reboot of a classic series that ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC. Back then, the show featured Richard Dean Anderson as Angus MacGyver, who played the secret agent who doesn't resort to violence when carrying out his work. Instead, as a man of science and engineering, MacGyver is a master at improvising resources to get him and those he rescues out of a threatening situation.
Producers of the rebooted "MacGyver" on CBS described the hero as unlike any other on TV today. "He uses his brain over his brawn," said executive producer James Wan via Deadline. "He's not like Jason Bourne or James Bond."
'MacGyver' Season 1 To Feature Original MacGyver?
The upcoming "MacGyver" on CBS will feature the lead character as a 20-something expert, which makes him younger and more hip than the original version. Producers reveal that there's an intention to have the old cast guest star in the new series. Potentially, Richard Dean Anderson and Bruce McGill could make their cameos in the reboot, Deadline also reported.
"MacGyver" Season 1 is already in the middle of production as it is expected to air its first episode on CBS on Friday, Sept. 23 at 8:00 p.m. Apart from Tiil and Eads in the new cast, the show also stars Justin Hires and Sandrine Holt.
