NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Is Dumping Nick Young; To Buy Out His Contract If Trade Fails

The Los Angeles Lakers has been trying to trade Nick Young, but up until now, nothing has materialized. Will the Lakers keep him in the roster at the start of the season or will Nick Young be waived?

It looks like the Lakers is determined to get rid of Nick Young. The NBA team has been trying to deal the veteran guard to no avail. With the 2016-2017 NBA season fast approaching, the LA Lakers is willing to buy out "Swaggy P"'s contract just to get him off, Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report said.

There are still two years remaining in Nick Young's contract with the Lakers amounting to some $11 million out of the $21 million four-year contract awarded to him, Fox Sports reported.

One of the main reasons that Nick Young is very much dispensable is because of his feud with D'Angelo Russell over a leaked infidelity video in the middle of the 2015-2016 NBA season. Removing Nick Young from the team would ensure that the Lakers has a solid roster and no conflict would arise. Last season, his performance also declined and he was even placed on the inactive list after he was observed to be losing focus on his game. He had an average of 7.3 points per game, 0.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds. The Lakers is rebuilding the team, with D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson part of its long-term plans.

Among the possible trades for Nick Young based on the rumor are with the Denver Nuggets, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to Sports Rageous, the Brooklyn Nets could pair Young with Jeremy Lin. However, the Nets currently has no assets that Lakers could acquire. If they are determined to get Young, they can exchange him for future second round picks.
