Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light-heavyweight champion "Suga" Rashad Evans plans on making a UFC comeback, but this time, he wants to do it 20 pounds lighter, at the UFC's middleweight division. Evans plans on fighting at UFC 205 in his hometown of New York.
Evans, who is coming from back to back losses to Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader, "Suga" is looking to drop down to the UFC's middleweight division and turn things around. In the division where UK star Michael "The Count" Bisping is the current champion, is where Evans plans on going back to his winning ways, and at the age of 36 years old, he believes that he still has one more run for the title left in him.
Talking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Evans says that he feels like it's time for a change, and that coming back from back-to-back losses is tough, adding that dropping down to 185 is the best move. He (Evans) also admitted that making the cut down to middleweight was going to be tough, but it was always something he thought of, but never really it much discipline and determination. Moreover, Evans stated that he wants to bring the life back to his fighting career, and going to middleweight is a good decision.
According to Fox Sports, Evans says he wants to be a part of mixed martial arts and UFC history by being on the UFC 205 card, which will be held at Madison Square Garden. Evans, who is a native of Niagara Falls, New York, wants to fight in front of his hometown crowd, saying that if he were to be given the chance to fight at "The Garden," he would put on a show for his fans back home.
Currently, Evans does not have an opponent for his middleweight debut, nor is he confirmed to be on the UFC 205 card.
