After Rudy Gay reportedly informed Sacramento Kings that he decided to become a free agent next summer before the 2017-2017 NBA season, the NBA team he belongs to now is looking to trade him in order to get players before he leaves them. He has been linked to Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics in the latest NBA trade rumors.
In a report by Sportsrageous, Gay's decision prompted Sacramento Kings to trade him on or before the deadline since they want to get players out of him rather than losing him in the free agency next offseason. Accordingly, if Gay will be acquired by the Memphis Grizzlies, he will be going back to where his career started.
Gay started off with Houston Rockets in 2006 but he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies making the team be dubbed as the "Rudy Gay's team." Gay stayed with Memphis Grizzlies for seven years and if Memphis Grizzlies would acquire him this offseason, it is possible that he would help the team become a top contender once again. Last season, the Memphis Grizzlies managed to enter the playoffs but were eliminated not long after.
If Gay will be joining Memphis Grizzlies for the 2016-2017 NBA season, he will be playing alongside Mike Conley, who was recently re-signed, and Chandler Parsons, who was acquired during the offseason. Gay could also be part of Memphis Grizzlies' core four including Zach Randolph, Tony Allen, and Marc Gasol. Gay could help Memphis Grizzlies in terms of offense.
For the other team being linked to Gay, Boston Celtics is reportedly interested in acquiring the Sacramento Kings player. CBS reported that the 30-year-old could help the Boston Celtics via the offense since the team could use offensive upgrades. He has averaged 18.4 points per game last NBA season with the Sacramento Kings. He does not do so well when it comes to three-point shooting but is quite efficient when it comes to the free throw line.
If Boston Celtics will acquire Gay, they would have to give up Amir Johnson or Tyler Zeller.
These trade rumors are yet to be confirmed.
