Almost a year after the untimely death of Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, the 54-year-old Canadian-American comedian is currently facing charges filed by White's estranged husband, Mark Burton. What's really surprising about the claims in the lawsuit is the fact that Carrey reportedly gave White STDs before dumping her.
The unscrupulous and malicious death lawsuit filed against Jim Carrey is definitely getting nastier. According to The Daily Beast, the complaint was amended Thursday, claiming the "Liar Liar" actor gave his late former ladylove Cathriona White multiple sexual transmitted diseases such as herpes and gonorrhea for two years before she was found dead by drug overdose in Los Angeles on Sept. 28, 2015.
Based on the lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court by White's ex-husband Mark Burton, Carrey reportedly triggered his ex-girlfriend' suicide last year. The complaint also revealed that it was Carrey who provided White with the pills she drank to commit suicide, not to mention the allegations that the "Dumb and Dumber" star also tried to cover up his involvement in her death.
Moreover, Burton also revealed that White wrote Carrey a letter, saying the STDs made it impossible for her to find a new love following their breakup, TMZ noted. Despite these claims, Carrey and his legal team were firm the complaint was just a desperate move and a predatory lawsuit.
In a statement issued to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, Jim Carrey's lawyer Martin Singer said the lawsuit was merely a "bogus claim" made by White's "husband of the sham marriage." Singer further stressed Carrey won't be paying any money, saying the unscrupulous case will be dismissed.
Carrey, on the other hand, responded to the STDs allegations, saying he will not tolerate "this heartless attempt to exploit" him or his late ex-girlfriend White. As a matter of fact, Carrey revealed that White had been fighting some personal troubles even before they met, as per Fox News.
With that said, Carrey's lawyer also said that his client has already suffered from the loss of White, whom he dearly loved and it's despicable that Carrey should be subjected to this malicious lawsuit. As for Burton, Singer said that he took some money from White's account when the latter died last year.
