Two new Google smartphones is set to launch next month. And if the rumors are true, these could be the Sailfish and Marlin, the company's replacement for the defunct Nexus line.
According to Venture Beat, the Search giant's previous tweet hinted that their fall event will include the announcement of a number of new devices including the Pixel. The new line of Google smartphones - the Pixel and Pixel XL - will replace the HTC-produced Nexus, according to the website.
Project Ara, Google's modular Smartphone initiative, was cut short earlier this month to "streamline the company's hardware efforts." Google, however still aims to work with other partners "to bring Project Ara's technology to market, potentially through licensing agreements."
In June, Android Police confidently hinted that the smaller Pixel is the reported Sailfish (codenamed S1). It said that it will sport a 5-inch, 1080p display screen, 64-bit, 2.0GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard memory, 12 megapixel rear camera accentuated by an 8megapixel front clicker and a 2,700mAh battery. Google Pixel will also come with a headphone jack on top, a Nexus 5X and 6P-esque fingerprint scanner and a USB-C port.
Google Pixel XL meanwhile will have the same innards, except that it will have a 5.5inch QHD display screen and a 3,450mAh battery. Both will run a "non-vanilla, Google customized, version of Android," and should cost around the same price tag as an iPhone.
Venture Beat also got hold of Google Pixel's press render as well as an invite to the October event. The image pillared on previous leaks that showed the device with a Google search pane, rounded icons and a trio of virtual buttons.
Google's hardware event will be held at the Ghirardelli Square in San Francsico, and will be streamed live over at YouTube. Both Google Pixel and Pixel XL should be available via Verizon in the United States, while unlocked versions are Google exclusives.
