From Luke Cage's iron-tough skin, fans can now wait for Danny Rand's iron-like fist with the character's standalone "Iron Fist" series now given a release date by Netflix, although fans of the grittier side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will still have to endure about a half a year long wait.
After quite a long time of anticipation, the "Iron Fist" series, which is also known as "Marvel's Iron fist," will premiere on Netflix in March 17 of next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will star "Game of Thrones" actor Finn Jones, with "Marvel's Iron Fist" set for a season of 13 episodes with each running the full hour.
"Marvel's Iron Fist" has been in production since April of this year, with Netflix' announcement of the release date coming Tuesday, Oct. 4 that included an official image showing Jones about to punch out a thug with some martial arts skills shared by Flickering Myth. "Marvel's iron Fist" is also the fourth series produced by Netflix out of its partnership with Marvel to produce superhero adaptations of its characters with much grittier elements than is regularly shown in the Marvel Cinematics Universe as a whole.
The other MCU series on Netflix that came before "Marvel's Iron Fist" was "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," and the recently released "Luke Cage." Together with "Marve's Iron Fist," all four series will come together with all of their main characters banding up in the future "Marvel's The Defenders" series, which will also be produced on Netflix.
"Marvel's Iron Fist" will star Danny Rand, a billionaire martial artist who gains the ability to summon his chi and manipulate it so it pools in his hand to give him the power of the Iron Fist. Aside from his hand manifesting the indestructible power of the Iron Fist, Rand also possesses the standard fare of superhero powers with superhuman physical attributes and capabilities.
With the advent of the popularity of adaptations of Marvel's comic books, Iron Fist has appeared in a number of animated and video game works with the most recent being his inclusion in "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" and another younger version in "Ultimate Spider-Man." "Marvel's The Iron Fist" will be the first live-action adaptation of the character.
