The widely popular game "Pokemon Go" just launched a few updates, and this included killing third-party trackers and scanner applications. With this update, one would expect Niantic had already built a tracking system within the game, but fans would be disappointed as the company did not.
According to Forbes, Niantic placed an API on the first update which stopped most of the scanners, but some sites were able to endure and survive this update. If that wasn't enough, Niantic placed a reCAPTCHA on the second update thus effectively sealing the deal and killed pretty much all the scanners and third-party trackers such as ScanGO, PokeSensor, and FastPokeMap.
The original "Pokemon" players would have been familiar with the tracking system as it was effectively used to trace certain rare Pokemon and made catching them a whole lot easier. Now, it seems like Niantic does not want any third party to meddle with "Pokemon Go," but it seems like Niantic refuses to listen with the tracking system.
The closest thing that "Pokemon Go" has right now to a tracking system are the sightings that point out which Pokemon are near, but it was not nearly as accurate as those from third-party applications; and tracking down Pokemon was still difficult especially if you are growing stale of the game. A tracking system would have proven beneficial to players who wanted to complete their Pokedex as well.
Inquisitr reports that Niantic is currently developing an improved Nearby feature for "Pokemon Go" around San Francisco, which shows images of PokeStops and the Pokemon sighting that comes along with it. However, the feature has already been available in San Francisco for two months, and Niantic still has not released the update worldwide which gives us hints that this may not be working as intended.
Other updates that Niantic provided for "Pokemon Go," however, were: the allowing of six Pokemon on friendly gyms, a new reward system for players who caught Pokemon of a particular type, fixed the lengthy animation for evolution, and fixed audio problems and other bugs.
