"Red Dead Redemption 2" and Nintendo Switch were both announced in the same month. Both were designed to fit the requirements for the next generation of gaming given that Nintendo Switch's specifications were not revealed yet. Nvidia on the other hand, already revealed to the public that their technology will power the new device. Still, rumors are circulating within the community regarding Nintendo Switch's capabilities.
In a report by GamingBolt, which featured Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, it was said that the chance of the Switch port for the game is "exceedingly poor," and that Nintendo has "wandered too far away from the mainstream." In part, Pachter's statement may be true based on the history of Nintendo.
Nintendo never wandered far from the mainstream, in fact, Nintendo has capitalized and has created its own market. When PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were engaged in the so-called console wars, Nintendo was busy building up its own community of loyal consumers. Looking at the figures, four out of five on the top selling games of all time are supported by the Wii console, three were Nintendo exclusives ("Tetris," "Wii Sports" and "Super Mario Bros."), as reported by Forbes.
The possibility of the Nintendo Community wanting to port "Red Dead Redemption 2" to the Switch console should be the question. Nintendo has been in the video game industry since the 1970s. One of the reasons why Nintendo is not going mainstream could be their loyal consumers. Unlike PlayStation and Xbox, Nintendo's market is mostly composed of the "undecided consumers" of the video game industry who just want to have a good time playing video games. Looking at the Nintendo Switch Reveal commercial and comparing it to Xbox and PS4 reveal video and the difference will explain what may be Nintendo' goal since the beginning, which is to have fun.
