"The Last Guardian" for the PS4 was supposed to be an exclusive for the PS3. The game was in development for not only a couple but a total of seven years since its announcement in 2009.
For anyone who has played "ICO" or "Shadow of the Colossus," "The Last Guardian" is a must have. The game has been delayed many times because of technical and hardware issues. The original release of the game, which was 2011, was changed to 2012 to match the PS4 and was scheduled to launch in the same year. After the 2012 announcement, the game went quiet. The updates stopped, there was no new information, and it was like the game just vanished into thin air.
E3 2015, three years after the announcement, a familiar game opened Sony's press conference, and the crowd goes wild. "The Last Guardian" was again presented running in the console that can handle its requirements, the PS4. The game was flawless just like what its legendary developer Fumito Ueda imagined it to be.
A new schedule for the game's release was announced: Oct. 25, 2016, the date of 2016's E3. But once again, it was delayed, and Sony gave the final date of the game's release, which was Dec. 6, 2016. Although PlayStation's official Twitter page tweeted: "One Month" with a poster of the game last November 7, 2016. Maybe the game needs one more day.
"The Last Guardian's" story tells of a boy who meets a feathered dog-like winged creature who goes by the name of Trico. The main focus of this adventure is the relationship between the winged beast and the boy. The first part of the game was already shared to the public through the release of several gameplay trailers, and based on IGN's Official Last of The Guardians thread, "This game will feature a gripping, heart-rending storyline, much like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, and will most likely make you feel a slew of mixed emotions by the end of the campaign."
With the current developments, information and the length of time the developers spent on the game, waiting for seven years will surely be worth it, or is it? Check out the video from Polygon playing "The Last Guardian" during the Tokyo Game Show.
