Ubisoft And Netflix in Collaboration For A New Series?

Ubisoft and Netflix, two of the entertainment industry's biggest players, are rumored to start a collaboration to produce a new series. Ubisoft has currently entered the movie scene with the movie adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" and now the paid television series market through Netflix.

The French company Ubisoft has been in the video game industry since 1998, the company formerly known as Ubi Soft Entertainment Software has produced some of the most memorable games and franchises available today. Games like "Assassin's Creed," "Far Cry," "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell," "Watchdogs," "Just Dance," "Prince of Persia" and "Ghost Recon" are just some of the titles under its flagship. It was rumored that the company is experiencing pressure from Vivendi who holds more than 20 percent of the company's stocks. Although Vivendi denies that a hostile takeover is not included in their to-do list, Ubisoft is looking for other ventures and collaborations to maintain the company's independent status, based on a report by IGN.

On the other hand, the former DVD-by-mail-turned streaming giant Netflix is currently focused on the production of original content with a budget of $5 billion for this year alone, based on an article by FastCompany. Although producer Scripps, one of the largest producers and distributors of lifestyle programming like HGTV, the Food Network, Travel Channel, the DIY channel, and the Cooking Channel, is going to part ways with the company, COO of Scripps, Ken Lowe, believes that SCRIPPS is "big enough," and "does not want to shackle itself with the obligation of a streaming partnership," per ComicBook.com.

The outcome of the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" movie will determine Ubisoft's stand in the motion picture industry and perhaps television. A collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft is something that both gamers and television enthusiasts can look out for, due to the fact that Ubisoft owns some of gaming industry's biggest names with the most ingenious and original storylines.
