Microsoft Fixed Surface Pro 3 Battery Issue With New Firmware Update; Error Caused The Charge Problem?

Microsoft finally solved the Surface Pro 3 battery issue with a new firmware update. In order for the battery capacity to accurately report, the tech giant's solution acts as a fuel gauge of the tablet. But how massive the battery issue was, Microsoft did not disclose. But what was the underlying cause?

What was the cause and extent of the battery issue?

The error was causing the battery charge to fail to be reported to the device firmware and OS. The new firmware update was immediately released following reports filed by Microsoft Surface Pro 3 users.

According to a report, Microsoft did not reveal how widespread the problem was, but only a "limited number." This battery issue could have caused a major setback for the company as they recently unveiled the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. However, there were more users facing the same Surface Pro 3 battery issue.

One of the tablet's users complained that the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 seemed fine when it was plugged in, but the battery would run out quickly once it was not being charged. So, the tech giant and their team took to great heights to solve the battery issue.

How did Microsoft respond to the Surface Pro 3 battery issue?

Microsoft released a statement to the media acknowledging the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 battery issue. "We are aware of a battery issue that is affecting a limited number of Surface Pro 3 users. We can confirm that the issue affecting these customers was not caused by the software updates issued on August 29th. Our team is actively looking into the issue to determine the cause and identify a fix. We will post an update as soon as we have more information to share."

Is the new firmware update effective in solving the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 battery issue?

Microsoft released the System Firmware Update last Nov. 7, 2016, after the new firmware update passed testing and QA process. Yet, according to a Windows Report, the update v38.11.50.0 somehow corrects the battery issue that occurs on a limited number of Surface Pro 3 devices.

Microsoft advises users to make sure that before updating, plug the Surface Pro 3 first and disconnect any USB device or external monitors, if connected. Update once the Surface Pro 3 has reached at least 40%.

For the time being, Microsoft Surface Pro 3 battery issues are still around. The good news is users could go to Microsoft's support agents and accept the $450 out of warranty exchange. The bad news is that there's no guarantee users will receive a device that won't develop issues after the short warranty on it expires.
