New reports have testified further that Apple is interested in OLED display panels that will be manufactured in 2017. This hints that the iPhone 8 will finally start to shift from LTPS (low-temperature polysilicon).
Based on the report from Nikkei Asian Review, Apple introduced three iPhone 8 variants for 2017 that surfaced online last week. Furthermore, iPhone 8 will be made available in three size variant: 4.7-inch, 5-inch, and 5.5 inches.
OLED display (organic light-emitting diode) will give iPhone 8 models will get a much sharper display. Competitors like Samsung has been using OLED display to create sharper on-screen images.
All of these three iPhone variants are said to be manufactured in all glass back casing ditching the metal casing to sport an all-glass casing instead according to the report from Nikkei Asian Review.
One of the three variants was said to be a premium iPhone offering sporting an OLED display panel in 2017 according to KGI securities analyst Min-Chi Kuo in iClarified postings. Models like iPhone Plus and smaller screen regular iPhone will stick to the current LTPS display technology.
While iPhone 8 glass back casing is provided by Biel and Lens according to Nikkei Asian Review, Apple is in talk with Sharp to be the supplier for the OLED display while earlier reports from Gadget 360 says that Samsung is believed to be the OLED display supplier. LG is another rumored supplier.
KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that all iPhone 8 that will be manufactured in 2017 will feature dual camera while having an OLED display with all glass back casing.
Reports also have surfaced that iPhone will be a major update in its 10th year anniversary. iPhone 8 will seem to have a front glass cover and chassis, that is joined by a metal rim that holds the transparent covering and an edge to edge display that has no metal rim on the top and the bottom, iClarified posted.
