"Homeland" Season 6 will return on Showtime in January 2017 with a potential big shakeup in the CIA. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is no longer connected to agency with her new job in a non-profit organization. Yet as the teaser has shown, she can't completely shake her links to the CIA. Will Carrie Mathison be pressed to return to the agency then?
Between "Homeland" Season 1 to 3, Carrie Mathison gave the CIA her utmost focus, to the point that she give up family and in some cases, her morals. But by "Homeland" Season 4, her views started to shift and events from Season 5 punctuated her decision to leave the service. She became disillusioned by the agency heads' ways of handling covert operations.
Yet it cannot be denied that the years she spent pouring her dedication to the CIA is already part of her system. "She's still searching for a solution, both politically and personally," Claire Danes said of her character, via Los Angeles Times. If only things were different in the CIA.
Viewers should expect that a shakeup will happen in the CIA with the introduction of President-elect Elizabeth Keane in "Homeland" Season 6. Her addition is speculated to become a big influence in Carrie's choice to work for the CIA again.
As the cast and producers have hinted during a press event over the summer, CIA head Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), whom Carrie has butted heads with, will have concerns that the incoming president will be a problem for its intelligence operations, Variety reports. It is speculated that the new president and Carrie will have their visions aligned, which would also be a problem for Dar Adal, as hinted in the "Homeland" teaser below.
The "Homeland" Twitter profile actually hints of a "power shift," which could refer to Dar Adal losing hold of his long-established ways in the CIA that could be in Carrie's favor. But whether or not this is enough to bring Carrie back to the agency is still uncertain.
