"American Horror Story" actress Angele Bassett is joining the incredible cast of Marvel's "Black Panther." The Academy Award-nominated actress will be joining other big names in the Marvel cinematic universe.
According to Comic Book Movie, Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther" will have its premiere on February 16, 2018. Marvel Studios are putting together Lupita Nyong'o who will play the role of Nakia, a member of T'Challa's personal guard, and Michael B. Jordan, who will be playing the primary antagonist Erik Killmonger. The 55-year-old veteran actor from "Captain America: Civil War" Forest Whitaker will take the role of Zuri, an elder statesman in Wakanda.
Famous celebrities who are also lined up for "Black Panther" include "The Walking Dead" actress Danai Gurira, who will play as Okoye, and Florence Kasumba as another ally of T'Challa's. Other names in the casting are Winston Duke and Daniel Kaluuya. Both men will take the roles of the villainous Man-Ape M'Baku and Kaluuya as the T'Challa confidant W'Kabi, respectively.
Just like Whitaker, Bassett also took a big leap from a massive DC franchise to Marvel. Bassett often pulls off the powerful woman character who doesn't need to be rescued, and she has played the villain in the DC movie "Green Lantern." Is she going to take on another villain role for the Marvel franchise?
According to Bustle, Bassett will play as T'Challa's Queen mother, Ramonda. She's not T'Challa's biological mother, but the second wife of his father who was abducted and abused. However, it isn't clear if "Black Panther" will follow the original storyline from the comics, as the project is still in its early production stage.
