"Deadpool" is the movie about the potty mouth Marvel superhero, Deadpool, which became a box-office hit movie. During the extra scene on the movie, "Deadpool", Deadpool himself teases fan that the upcoming "Deadpool 2" will have Marvel character, Cable, joining for the sequel. Deadpool even shared casting suggestions for the role of Cable of which the name of Keira Knightley was thrown in.
"Deadpool 2" has just been put through a wringer these past few months. The original "Deadpool" director, Tim Miller, left the movie over creative differences with "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds. The original music composer of "Deadpool", Tom Holkenborg, also left the movie. It was just recently announced that "John Wick" director David Leitch will be helming "Deadpool 2".
With this news, "Deadpool 2" seems to be hitting another blockade as the role of Cable has not yet been cast. The Marvel character Cable was first announced during the extra scenes in "Deadpool". Cable is the son of Cyclops and is described as someone with a muscular build and a flat top. Cable has a bionic eye and arm and has strong telepathic skills. Cable is also dubbed as the strongest mutant in the Marvel universe.
Frontrunners for the role of Cable are Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Stephen Lang, Jon Hamm, Ron Perlman, and even Dean Jeffery Morgan. But why not Keira Knightley? It was jokingly suggested during the extra scenes of "Deadpool" as the actress "got range". But really, why not Keira Knightley?
Obviously, the gender of Kiera Knightley is a problem as Cable is male. However, by changing a bit of the character's history, why not make Cable female and British at that. Keira Knightley sure has acting chops and has even shown her action skills during her film, "Arthur" where she played a warrior Guinevere. It won't be a hardship for Keira Knightley to act all prim and proper and go head to head with Deadpool's antics.
If rumors of the next Bond would involve a Jane Bond, why not ride the gender-swapping train for Cable. It would be unexpected as one should be when talking about "Deadpool".
What do you think? Will Keira Knightley be eventually cast as Cable for "Deadpool 2"? Share your thoughts on the comments below!
