It's only a matter of days before a new "Girl Meets World" episode graces television. The upcoming episode will be Christmas-themed but Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) isn't exactly in a festive mood.
The upcoming "Girl Meets World" Season 3 episode titled "Girl Meets a Christmas Maya" pays homage to the classic novel "A Christmas Carol" written by Charles Dickens, and it showcases the same themes, too, CarterMatt reported. In the promo for the episode, Maya's attitude towards Christmas is akin to that of Ebeneezer Scrooge, saying "humbug" and showing to everyone that she's not enjoying the holiday at all.
Maya's reaction regarding Christmas is understandable, given how she grew up in a complicated home. Her mother undeniably loves her but past Christmases weren't exactly a joyous experience for Maya since she was a kid. Maya is probably associating the holiday with bad memories, thus her grumpy mood.
Thankfully, Maya's best friend, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), and her family are there for her. True enough, Riley was shown in the promo for the "Girl Meets World" episode doing whatever it takes to make Maya happy and appreciate Christmas again.
Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" ended on a happy note, so it makes sense that the upcoming "Girl Meets World" episode would have a positive ending, too. The Christmas episode could also serve as a closure on Carpenter's Maya character now that the show's future beyond Season 3 is uncertain. Maya appreciating Christmas again and learning to overlook her negative experiences associated with the holiday is great character development.
"Girl Meets a Christmas Maya" airs on Disney Channel on Friday night, Dec. 2. Watch the promo below.
Fans are doing what they can for a "Girl Meets World" Season 4 renewal. The coming-of-age show's lead star, Blanchard, also jumped onboard a social media campaign for a fourth season. In a tweet posted two weeks ago, the young actress stressed the relevance of "Girl Meets World" to her generation.
There are also rumors about Disney planning to transfer "Girl Meets World" to another network so it can tackle more mature storylines, Parent Herald previously reported. This, however, is pure speculation at the moment and it remains to be seen what's going to happen to "Girl Meets World" after Season 3 ends.
