"Grey's Anatomy" fans know Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex (Justin Chambers) as close, long-time friends. The ABC medical drama's winter finale, however, proved that a romance is possible between the two doctors.
Meredith and Alex's potential romance rose to the surface during the winter season finale of "Grey's Anatomy" titled "You Haven't Done Nothin'." Viewers are now speculating that the platonic friends would embark on a relationship when "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 returns to its regular programming in January on ABC.
Fans that always keep track of "Grey's Anatomy" wouldn't be surprised by this development between Meredith and Alex. In fact, one of the show's executive producers, Betsy Beers, has hinted of a possible romance between the two in an interview earlier this year.
Beers, who's a huge Alex fan from the start, told E! News that she totally understands why MerLex fans think that the duo is "inevitable, so they're getting ahead of it." She also thinks that a romance for Meredith and Alex is "a logical place to go," given the close friendship they have maintained throughout the course of "Grey's Anatomy."
Fans of Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), on the other hand, are swamped with bad news. Things don't look good for Jo and DeLuca after the "Grey's Anatomy" winter finale, meaning the two are going back to being just friends after a romantic future for them was teased.
Luddington told Entertainment Weekly that Jo probably doesn't think that Andrew has feelings for her because of the things that are "spinning around her head." The actress believes that Jo is "just happy to have a friend" and if she detected Andrew's feelings for her, there's a huge chance that she would "set it aside" because she's "craving simplicity" and doesn't want to complicate her life at the moment. Basically, Jo Friendzoned Andrew and for how long that state would last is still unknown.
The winter finale of "Grey's Anatomy" showcased Jo finally telling Alex that she's already married and hiding from her husband, according to Moviefone. If Alex's assault on DeLuca goes to trial, Jo would have to testify and her abusive spouse could find her.
Alex is stumped and Meredith urges him to go to trial instead of taking a plea deal. Meredith believes that Alex can be free and save his career.
