‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Welcomes Michelle Yeoh To Join Doug Jones & Anthony Rapp Aboard

Great news for all ¨Star Trek¨ fans. Chinese-Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh has recently confirmed to join Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp as the first official cast members of "Star Trek: Discovery." Yeoh joins as one of the main characters, but CBS hasn´t revealed yet who will take the lead role.

Empire News reported that the ¨Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon¨ actress has just signed aboard as Captain Georgiou of another space vessel, the Starship U.S.S. Shenzhou. Yeoh's character is called Han Bo and will be a huge part of the show's first season. More crew members are yet to announced.

According to DEADLINE, Jones is set to play the role of Lt. Saru, a Starfleet science officer and a member of a mysterious alien species. The American actor and former contortionist has already mastered portraying non-human characters. He is famous for his many creature credits, appearing in numerous science fiction, fantasy, and horror films.

It is not surprising why the 56-year-old actor snagged a leading role of another alien character in one of the greatest movies of all time. One of his incredible roles include Abe Sapien in the movie ¨Hellboy¨ and as Silver Surfer in ¨Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.¨

Meanwhile, Rapp is a 45-year-old stage actor who will take a break from theater to take on a different character in a film. This is a big change for an actor who often performs in Broadway shows. He will play Lt. Stamets, also a Starfleet science officer, astromycologist, and a fungus expert in starship Discovery.

The ¨Star Trek¨ televisions series has recently run into a problem when one of the showrunners, Bryan Fuller, decided to call it quits due to an overwhelming workload. He is also tied up with another project, the forthcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's ¨American Gods.¨

The first episode of ¨Star Trek: Discovery¨ premieres in May 2017 with a broadcast TV special on CBS.
