'Divergent' Series News & Updates: Author Veronica Roth Writes New Ending; How Will This Affect 'Ascendant'?

Fans of the "Divergent" series will be thrilled to know that there will be a new addition to the story of Tris and Four. Author Veronica Roth has written an epilogue which will answer fans' questions of what happened to Tobias Eaton a.k.a. Four after the last book, "Allegiant."

Roth made the announcement via Twitter. Some fans feel confused or disgruntled with the way the book series ended, but Roth stated that she always felt that the story was "complete." However, the 28-year-old author said that recently, she felt the need to write more, especially about her lead male character.

The epilogue, entitled "We Can Be Mended," will revolve around Four, years after the ending of the last book. It will be interesting to see how the character has grown and matured, without Tris this time. Moreover, fans will be curious to find out how Chicago and its factions are faring now.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the "Divergent" epilogue will be available to only those who will buy or pre-order Roth's new book, "Carve the Mark." It will hit the bookstores on Jan. 17, 2017.

Meanwhile, the film adaptation of Roths' novels is currently hanging in mid-air. The fourth and final movie, "Divergent: Ascendant," is said to be made into a spinoff for TV instead of a cinematic release. Actress Shailene Woodley, who plays the lead Tris Prior, has already expressed her surprise regarding the production's decision, Deadline reported.

Woodley has yet to confirm her participation in "Ascendant," but fans fear that the actress might not reprise her role if the movie will not be released in theaters. Theo James, Woodley's on-screen partner who plays Four in the movies, has also kept silent as to whether or not he will still be appearing on "Divergent: Ascendant." James is currently busy promoting his upcoming movie "Underworld: Blood Wars" with actress Kate Beckinsale.
