While everybody else was busy with the PlayStation Experience 2016, a few gamers who happen to have stumbled with this classic shooter game seem to have received an early Christmas present. The "MechWarrior" franchise is about to make a comeback as Piranha Games confirmed the release of the single-player focused "MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" during the Mech Con 2016.
The new "MechWarrior" game will sport a single-player game will a full campaign mode. However, no specific platforms have yet been announced by Piranha Games.
PCGamer reported that in an interview with Piranha Games President Russ Bullock, he stressed that MechWarrior is still in its infancy. Further, he added that many of the game's features are still being "pieced together." "We want to make sure we're really certain about things before they go out," said Piranha Games President Bullock.
It is noteworthy to point out that "MechWarrior Online" was built using CryEngine, "MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" have utilized Unreal Engine 4, as seen in the released gameplay trailer during the Mech Con 2016. Also, Piranha Games ensured fans that support for "MechWarrior Online" will still continue, per IGN.
"MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" is set in the Third Succession War. The playable character that players will have take is of a rookie BattleMech pilot. The player will then take contracts from the different factions, engage in tactical, and affect the game world and its emergent story through their choices, according to Digital Trends. From inside the BattleMech, the game is played from a first-person perspective.
During the Mech Con 2016, "MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" gameplay trailer is from a pre-alpha build, from Unreal Engine 4. Fans were able to get a glimpse of the BattleMech and the early mission. "MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" debuts in 2018.
