The cult classic "Little Shop of Horrors" will be getting a musical reboot as per the announcement of Warner Bros. Reports say that the person tapped to direct the musical remake is Greg Berlanti and the one penning the script is Matthew Robinson.
"Little Shop of Horrors" was first out back in 1960 via the big screen. It was directed by Roger Corman and featured Jack Nicholson as the lead actor. This was one of the first projects for the big screen regarding Nicholson.
"Little Shop of Horrors" centered on the character of Nicholson, who was a clumsy young man who raises a plant then discovers it as a carnivorous species. Nicholson then had to kill in order to keep the plant fed, Variety reported.
The upcoming "Little Shop of Horrors" musical remake is not the first time that a reboot of the cult classic has been made. In 1986, Frank Oz directed his own reboot. It featured stars like Bill Murray and Rick Moranis. An off-Broadway adaptation was also done by Howard Ashman.
Cinema Blend also reported that the possible reason for "Little Shop of Horrors" having a musical remake is because every few years, classic Broadway musicals become movies in an attempt to score awards during the upcoming awards seasons. Also, movie musicals are released during the Holiday season, meaning if "Little Shop of Horrors" will be released around that time, there is a good chance that the producers and creators will get big bucks out of the remake.
More on the director of the upcoming "Little Shop of Horrors" remake, Berlanti has been focusing on The CW superhero TV shows. He has worked on "Arrow," "The Flash," and "Legends of Tomorrow." He also had a hand on "Supergirl."
Berlanti's last directed movie was back in 2010. He worked on "Life as We Know It." More details about the "Little Shop of Horrors" are expected to be released soon.
