What happens when some of the most talented developers go rogue and create their own studio? A game that's filled with the elements of their previous endeavor and a legacy in the making.
"Vane" is a video game which came from an independent company called Friend & Foe composed of developers who contributed to games like, Ico," The Last Guardian," Battlefield 3," Bionic Commando," "Killzone" and many more AAA games. "Vane" is a game about showing up in a mysterious place without knowing what's happening and then learning what's happening as you play. And even then, much of it will be left up to interpretation. "Vane" is deliberately vague," according to Polygon.
Vane is shown resembles some of The Last Guardian and Ico's graphical presentation based on the game's trailer. "It starts with a young-looking character running around a desert that has a sandstorm off in the distance. For the most part, the game doesn't use textures, going for a broad-strokes look that players can see clearly from a distance. "It forces us to be better artists," says Ivar Dahlberg , Vane's director. The character can perform the basic movements required in an exploration game, the difference, however, is that the player can transform into a bird when falling off a cliff or a building.
The description of what the character in "Vane" can do is only based on the prototype the team created, the character can have different types of abilities when the full game is released. The team is really dedicated to creating a game with originality due to the fact that they don't want to be compared to team Ico's accomplishment in the future.
"Vane's" team is constantly updating their DevLog about the game's current state. According to their latest update, Vane's development team is currently working on what they call as the age old question of making sure that the player sees what they want them to see, this is due to the result of their last bit summit wherein nobody found the entrance to the underground tunnels they want the testers to find. Overall, "Vane" may have some of "Ico's" elements but the game's unique way of storytelling will somehow remove that concept in the future.
