'Vikings' Season 5 Air Date, Cast, New Update: Will Ivar, Lagertha Become Enemies? New Intrigues, Betrayals Coming To Kattegat?

"Vikings Season 5" will prove an enigmatic surprise given character set-up by creator Michael Hirst among the History series cast in Season 4B. Certainly, a showdown between Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) over Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) among other issues is an awaited development in Season 4. However, new "Vikings" lead Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen) is not likely to stand by and watch Aslaug get slapped around.

As Nerdist reports, "Vikings Season 4B" Episode 12 had been an interesting study of the character of Ivar The Boneless. In relation to this is the singular devotion between Aslaug and Ivar to each other. Given how Lagertha has a bone to pick with Aslaug, will Ivar The Boneless come to Aslaug's defense?

At the moment, fans of the History series are unsure of the outcome when Lagertha finally comes after Aslaug. Will it be a full on cat fight? Or will it be the more subtle cloak and dagger of court intrigues? More importantly, will Aslaug survive such confrontation.

Whatever the endgame for Aslaug may be, will "Vikings Season 5" actually see Ivar and Lagertha become bitter enemies of each other? If so, Lagertha will have one enemy unlike any other that shield maiden had had to survive in her court life. As Nerdist points out, the up-and-coming "Vikings Season 5" central character is a wily and dangerous leader indeed.

As The Hollywood Reporter cited in an earlier article, Ivar The Boneless of history lived on to triumph against the monarchs of England. His disease notwithstanding, Ivar The Boneless' name rang out in historical accounts not just as one of the most successful leaders of the Vikings, but also among the cruelest. Curiously, "Vikings Season 4B" will show Ragnar Lothbrok advise Ivar The Boneless to be ruthless against his enemies.

If so - and Lagertha becomes a target for Ivar The Boneless on behalf of Aslaug - then Ragnar Lothbrok will once more become the indirect cause of misfortune for his first wife. The Seer (John Kavanagh) will then be close to being vindicated in the prediction he gave about the return of Ragnar Lothbrok. Essentially, "Vikings Season 4B" is in for a truly rough ride.

History will air "Vikings Season 4B" Episode 13 ("Two Journeys) on Dec 13. Episode 14 ("In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning") will air on Dec 21. Season 5 is anticipated to run by mid-2017.
