Turtle Rock is said to be working on an AAA IP together with Perfect World Entertainment which is a free-to-play Specialist. The new game is said to be a Dark Fantasy themed online fantasy first person IP game.
"A new franchise, set in a new universe" was the description of Phil Robb who's the co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios, according to DualShockers. Phil Robb also adds "What we can say is that we are definitely going back to our moment-to-moment gameplay roots with a huge focus on co-op FPS. There will be plenty of baddies to shoot up, but it is not a 'zombie game' or anything post-apocalyptic. What we can say right now is there's a strong dark fantasy element to it."
Turtle Rock's collaboration with Perfect World Entertainment is said to be beneficial to both players and the developers. Free to play games is described by Turtle Rock as a way of continuous communication with the players. Boxed games or $60 games contains a very small opportunity of correcting mistakes if something goes wrong, through post-launch DLC's or updates which are a very unstable process.
The development studio also stated that they are now 70 strong and is expecting an influx of people with the goal of 100 employees. Turtle Rock also aims to become a multi-project studio, in fact, the team is currently working on a couple of games for the Oculus Rift called "Oculus: Other Worlds" and "Face your Fears."
"Left 4 Dead" has been a hit within the FPS community and has defined the way first person shooters are made. Turtle Rock's current plans for their upcoming free-to-play dark fantasy game may or may not replicate the number of players of "Left 4 Dead," but a free-to-play game published by Perfect World Entertainment sounds great knowing that Perfect World is an expert in that field. Turtle Rock and Perfect World's project is scheduled for a 2018 release.
