The con-man series "Sneaky Pete" that involves Bryan Cranston has gotten a premiere date at Amazon. Set for a Friday, Jan. 13 release on the streaming platform, the show will be headlined by Giovanni Ribisi as a former convict who assumes the identity of Pete, his cell mate.
"Sneaky Pete" has been sidelined for at least 16 months before this latest confirmation. Subscribers of Amazon Prime have actually been able to watch its first episode since August 2015. Now, they can continue following the series when all of the show's nine episodes are out on the scheduled date, according to Collider.
Giovani Ribisi plays Marius in "Sneaky Pete." In trying to flee from the villain, Vince, played by Bryan Cranston, he decides to assume the life of his former cellmate and live with a family who has no idea he's not the real deal.
The actor said that his character goes to great lengths to keep the pretenses up. "Tt speaks to his character, where you kind of wonder, is it for survival or is it for the game?" Ribisi said, per Yahoo.
"It is a show about identity; a show about the secrets we have and keep from other people," executive producer Graham Yost told TV Insider. He got on board the show following the airing of the pilot episode on the streaming site and after David Shore left as showrunner.
Originally, "Sneaky Pete" was supposed to run on CBS but the network dropped it from its rosters even before it could start production. Originally, Bryan Cranston's role was supposed to be a guest spot only.
But in tweaking "Sneaky Pete," the star of "Breaking Bad" became the villain of the show's first season. "It's a very different character than Walter White," Yost said. Bryan Cranston also directed some of the episodes and worked behind the scenes as the show's executive producer. Watch the teaser to "Sneaky Pete" below.
