'Game Of Thrones' Spinoff Confirmed? HBO Boss Wants A 'Brand Extension' To Grow The Series

Talks of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff are not dying down especially since HBO itself is always dropping hints of its plan to expand the highly-popular show. HBO boss Richard Plepler recently discussed the network's plan of a "brand extension" for "Game of Thrones," which others take to mean as a spinoff confirmation.

Plepner told The Hollywood Reporter that the network is having these "embryonic conversations" to expand the fantasy series. He said that HBO Programming head Casey Bloys and him are aware of the potential of the series for "brand extension."

But talks about a "Game of Thornes" spinoff haven't moved forward faster because HBO is still focused on the culmination of the series. "Game of Thrones" will still have two more seasons to air before it bows out of television. "We're going to do that while at the same time parallel processing very embryonic stages of other possibilities," Plepler further said.

In recent months, "Game of Thrones" creator George RR Martin have hinted on what the spinoff potentials could be, ever since talk about the show extending has cropped up. He told Entertainment Weekly that there will be no shortage of material if HBO decides to either do a prequel or a sequel.

"There are eight million stories in Westeros," he said. All he needs is for HBO to signify its interest.

Meanwhile, the success of "Game of Thrones" continue to flourish as awards season enters the calendar. The show recently received citations from the Critics' Choice Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards as a Best Drama Series contender.

On the other hand, production for "Game of Thrones" Season 7 in Ireland and Spain could be nearing its end. It is expected that the upcoming season will premiere in the middle of 2017, with an 8-episode offering. Check back to this site for more about the show's news and updates.
