The terrorism in "Homeland" will be much different in the upcoming season. As the show shifts its story in New York, which will take place during the aftermath of the presidential elections, Season 6 will show the "most difficult transition of power."
The phrase was hinted in a new "Homeland" teaser released by Showtime, as reported by Deadline. The show will be introducing President-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel), who is seen meeting with different government heads as she becomes acquainted with the affairs and state of the country.
"During this strange and interregnum where a very fragile transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect," according to "Homeland" showrunner Alex Gansa, per TV Guide. It is also hinted that the new president has a different thrusts when it comes to countering terrorism and it will affect the activities of the CIA.
Meanwhile, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is no longer with the agency, but she is working with Muslim groups for a non-profit organization. In the beginning of "Homeland" Season 6, Carrie comes to an aid of a Muslim-American who has been the target of the FBI.
"Homeland" showrunner Alex Gansa hints that terrorism in this new season will be more about a "do-it-yourself terrorist." He is referring to individuals whose political view have become "self-radicalized," which he says could be more dangerous than the threats brought about by 9/11 and other attacks.
How "Homeland" Season 6 will play this out is one to watch. "The thriller exists in a much more psychological way this year, and we're curious to see how people respond to it," Gansa said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"Homeland" also stars Mandy Patinkin, F. Murray Abraham and Rupert Friend. The latter's character is confirmed to still be alive this upcoming season. Catch the show's return on Sunday, Jan. 15 on Showtime.
