“A Cure for Wellness” is a film by Gore Verbinski that follows Dane Dehaan’s character as he retrieves his boss from a wellness spa in the Swiss Alps. The seemingly simple tasks lead DeHaan’s character into a horror experience.
Lockhart, portrayed by Dane Dehaan, is an exec who discovers that their CEO is getting water treatment in the waters in the Alps. When Lockhart arrives, he already has a feeling that there’s something wrong with the almost-perfect place.
Once he sees the CEO, he immediately decides to travel back to the States. However, “A Cure for Wellness” has its way of holding people, for them, they encounter a horrific car crash. They stay in the castle longer that he plans as he sees and experiences strange things, Film reports.
In an interview with Gore Verbinski, he said that one of the influences of the film is the book “The Magic Mountain” written by Thomas Mann. It’s about a group of people in a sanitarium who also plays on the theme of denial.
However, this isn’t just the case of “A Cure for Wellness.” It also follows a historical event 200 years ago with the most unconventional treatment. Gore also wants to bring the viewers to arrive at the question of their existence as they follow the characters in the film.
The question of existence and the possibility of creating a cure to what people seems to be experiencing as an illness of life’s loop is what the film wants to visualize. That’s where the film focuses on its visuals; the use of water, hallways, and even operating rooms, Collider reports.
Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth also stars in “A Cure for Wellness.” The international trailer has been released, watch it below.
