The rumors of HTC's follow-up to its Vive VR headgear called Vive 2 was debunked by the HTC itself. It was rumored that the Vive 2 will be unveiled during this year's Consumer Electronics Show or CES.
HTC has released a statement saying that "There is no truth to the rumor of launching Vive 2 at CES 2017, At Vive, we are laser focused on building out a strong and growing ecosystem for current and future Vive owners so they can experience the best room-scale VR with the most compelling content available." The rumor started from a Chinese news agency called Digitimes reported that HTC is planning to release the second generation of the Vive with a wireless transmitter at the CES 2017, based on the report by PCgamer.
HTC launched its VR headgear on April 5, 2016, with a price tag of $800. The Vive was the first of its kind and the games was supported by Valve through its digital distribution hub. HTC Vive's expensive price tag made it more like a luxury item rather than an everyday entertainment equipment.
The headgear was also criticized for its bulky cable which is hard on the neck and back which could also become a potential tripping hazard. Setting up the HTC Vive for the first time is also a pain which can take up to an hour. HTC Vive also requires the User to have a high end PC for it to run seamlessly, based on the review by Fortune.
On the bright side, the HTC Vive headgear is considered to be a pioneer in the VR market. Once the device is properly set-up, the VR experience is worth it. Even though HTC Vive's catalog of games is not as many as its competition, the Vive still delivers one of the best experiences when it comes to Virtual Reality simulation. There are still a lot of room for improvement for the HTC Vive and the headgear's technology is far more advanced to be outdated and replaced by a newer version
