"Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" received huge praises during the game demonstration at the E3 in Los Angeles last June and the hype around the game is still not over. It's expected to deliver another win for Nintendo when it is released in 2017 and game developer Eiji Anouma acknowledges that part of its success was in taking the game in a new direction.
'Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild' Open World vs. Open Air
Speaking with Edge Magazine, Anouma stated that making "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" a "free and open-air world" has been a big but welcome change for the game. The developers were inspired to create this based on players' feedback from a previous release, "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword." "There were these pockets of worlds that players were able to dive into, but they really wanted to see what was in between those worlds," Anouma stated, per Attack of the Fanboy.
But the open world concept has been introduced in other games before, so Nintendo prefers theirs to be termed as "open air." This covers not just the gameplay, but also the music, artistic design and overall feel of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild." Open air is a term coined by Nintendo's marketing head Bill Trinen, per IGN.
'Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild': There Is More To Be Unraveled
Players who have tried the game demo last June were treated to plenty of material from "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild." In fact, some were able to test a full hour's worth of gameplay, as presented in this video demo below.
The worry for gamers is that the demo has already revealed much of what players can do in "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild." However, this is only one percent of the total content of the game, per Polygon. There will be a lot more for gamers to unravel once "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" is officially out.
'Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild' For Release On Wii U & Nintendo NX
"Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" comes to stores in early 2017 and it is expected to be released for both Wii U and Nintendo NX consoles. The latter is Nintendo's upcoming latest hardware.
Earlier, there were presumptions that the release of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" on the Wii U was specifically delayed so that it will coincide with the arrival of the Nintendo NX. However, the company clarified that "Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild" for the NX was always part of the original plan, per another IGN report.
