'Battlefield 1' Release Date, News & Update: DICE Boss Talks 'Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare' Comparison; Console Power vs. PC

One of this year's highly anticipated game, "Battlefield 1," will be in stores on Oct. 21 and two weeks later, it's competitor "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" will follow. Needless to say, the comparison has been made between these games since teasers have come out, but the latter has been receiving more criticisms from gamers.

Patrick Bach, who heads DICE, the developer for "Battlefield 1," addressed the competition between the video games. He also talked about what players can expect, especially from those who will be using "Battlefield 1" on the console.

'Battlefield 1' vs. 'Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare'

Bach told Metro that he's unsure why the reactions to "Battlefield 1" vs. "Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare" have been polar opposites. Gamers have been praising the DICE game more, while slamming the game Infinity Ward developed to the point of trolling about it on the internet. "I agree. I think it's too polarized," said Bach.

The dev further stated that he believes "Battlefield 1" is unique, which is why gamers are more appreciative of what they have seen from the teasers so far. He also surmised that DICE has done something that "has not been done before," and gamers have nothing to compare this with except through their expectations. According to Bach, gamers expect to be surprised and this is where "Battlefield 1" might have the edge over the other shooting game.

Game Rant notes that the upcoming "Call of Duty" doesn't seem to be a well-thought of innovation, whereas "Battlefield 1" reassessed the World War 1 setting into something new. But despite the comparison, "Call of Duty" remains a notable property in the gaming industry and earlier reactions to the game might not exactly be indicative of whether or not it will become a blockbuster.

'Battlefield 1' PC vs. Console Gaming

Bach also discussed how DICE has prepared for when the updated consoles come into the market and how this will matter to their games in the future. DICE primarily develop with PC power in mind. However, when Xbox One Scorpio and PS4 Neo come out, which reportedly are more powerful than current generation consoles, Bach said it will not be a problem for his company.

"If they give us a better console we just crank it up and it'll be more awesome," said Bach in the Gaming Bolt interview. He's also not opposed to consoles becoming more powerful than PC when it comes to game, if only to drive the PC industry to innovate further. He observes that whenever there's a new console out that seems to beat PC power, the usual trend is that PC follows it up with something better. Hence, the competition is all good for everyone.
