'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' Latest News, Air Date & Teaser: First Netflix Cast Photo, Filming Wrap-Up & Everything To Know

Netflix announced the development of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" into a TV show in 2014, with an initial plan to carry out 13 episodes. Production has rolled since casting has been confirmed, but the show hit some bumps along the way.

However, it looks like Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is nearly done wrapping up its very first season, perhaps in time for a potential 2016 release. Here's what you need to know about the show so far.

Netflix 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events': Who Is Behind The Show?

Based on the classic best-selling children's book of the same name, the show is produced by Paramount Television for Netflix with Mark Hudis serving as its showrunner. Esteemed director Barry Sonnenfeld sits behind the camera, while Daniel Handler is also involved as one of its writers/executive producers. Literary fans know Handler very well as he wrote "A Series of Unfortunate Events" under the pen name Lemony Snicket.

Netflix 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events': What Is It About?

As it is in the books, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" follows the lives of three kids -- Klaus, Violet and baby Sunny Baudalaire -- who lost their parents early on. They've been sent to live with a relative they have never met before and Count Olaf isn't the kind of uncle any child can warm up to.

Olaf is evil towards the kids and is instrumental in making sure that disasters and accidents happen to them. Olaf might also be after the children's inheritance. The kids discover more secrets about Count Olaf and their family as the story progress.

Paramount released the movie adaptation of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" in 2004, with Jim Carrey playing Count Olaf. Casting for the TV show began in late 2015, per Netflix.

Netflix 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events': Who Is In It?

By January 2016, it was revealed that Hudis stepped down from this task as showrunner. Netflix did not name his replacement, but announced that Neil Patrick Harris was going to play Count Olaf in the TV version, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Soon, other cast announcements followed. Patrick Warburton was named the narrator (Lemony Snicket) and the kids, Louis Hynes (Klaus) Malina Weissman (Violet), were also chosen, per Deadline. The show also enlisted Aasif Mandvi (Uncle Monty) and K. Todd Freeman (Mr. Poe). Filming has taken place in Vancouver during the spring and a first unofficial cast photo was posted by Weissman on her Instagram.

Netflix has not yet announced the date of the episodes' release, but eager fans are already speculating it could happen in the fall. The first-ever teaser might also be out in the next few weeks. Here's the unofficial trailer below. Stay tuned!
