The Sacramento Kings have recently signed free agent point guard Ty Lawson. Lawson looks to fill the position after former Kings point guard Rajon Rondo left the team to sign with the Chicago Bulls earlier in the NBA pre-season.
While Sacramento Kings all-star DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins was busy playing for a gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Kings organization was also busy filling up a spot in their point guard position after former star guard Rajon Rondo was traded to the Bulls. After a less than promising run in the 2015-2016 season, the Sacramento ball club looks to improve their struggling roster with the acquisition of Ty Lawson.
According to the Sacramento Kings official website, the announcement of Lawson's trade to the team was made by Vice President of Basketball Operations, Vlade Divac. Lawson who is coming in to his 8th season in the NBA, has a career average of 13.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.
Lawson fell out of the starting rotation in his previous team, the Houston Rockets, after losing the position to rising point guard Patrick Beverly, and late in the 2015-2016 season, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers, after his contract was bought out by the Rockets, according to ESPN. Entering free agency, Lawson still remains consistent with his game, as a crafty point guard with decent three-point range.
With the signing of former Sacramento Kings point guard Seth Curry to the Dallas Mavericks, the Kings have become undermanned at the backcourt position, with only Darren Collison and veteran Garrett Temple. Lawson will look to either start for the Kings or come off the bench for Collison. Lawson's shooting range and passing will make a nice contribution to the Kings offense.
The Sacramento Kings will play the Phoenix Suns in their first game of the season on October 27.
