When the fourth installment of "God Of War" was revealed at E3 2016, features that were on show surprised fans. These helped make "God Of War" 4 the crown jewel of Sony's 2016 presentation, and to many, the entire show.
"God Of War" 4 gameplay changes from the series expectations were behind the overwhelming positive feedback. These come at a point after the fourth main entry, "God of War Ascension," had series fatigue setting in for many "GoW" fans.
Of the changes in "God Of War" 4 were the new Norse setting and the tonal story evolution of Kratos. "God Of War" 4 redefines Kratos from a violent and vengefully crazed immortal to a restrained but troubled father.
Also part of the changes in "God Of War" 4 are Kratos' son as an integral gameplay element and companion on the journey as Parent Herald cites. The absence of Kratos' Chaos Blades in favor of a new weapon is also one "GoW" difference.
"God Of War" 4 brings in a new fighting engine and the new semi-open world and role-playing "GoW" gameplay elements. It is, in particular, these RPG-type elements that "God Of War" fans are most curious about due to the implicit impact such changes will make to the fan favorite franchise.
In this case, an action adventure that has RPG influence with open world elements will lead to the inevitable question of "God Of War" 4 game length. Game development studios have been, for a while, using open world as a consideration for their designs as eighth generation console development costs rise.
By a game using open world settings, many assets can be reused and thus resource savings can be made on development times. In the light of this, the question of how long "God of War 4" will be compared to previous iterations has been asked over at "GoW" 4 director Cory Barlog's Twitter page.
"Hard to know until it's done," Cory Barlog responded to the "God Of War" fan. Earlier on Cory Barlog retweeted a post criticising misinformation that the "God Of War" 4 director claimed "GoW" gameplay will last 100 hours long.
Returning luminary Cory Barlog was the director of "God of War 2," which is considered by many as the best in the series, and no doubt will bring much excitement and anticipation to the new "GoW." Sony Santa Monica and Cory Barlog are expected to be ready with "God Of War 4" in 2017 as an exclusive PS4 title.
