"Game of Thrones" is known for delivering grand and expensive battle spectacles, as evident in episodes such as "Blackwater," "Hardhome," "Watchers on the Wall," and the most recent, "Battle of the Bastards." It's natural for fans of the highly popular fantasy drama to expect another huge battle scene and this time, it could be one featuring Daenerys Targaryen against Cersei Lannister.
The "Game of Thrones" Season 7 big southern battle scoop came from Spanish-language news outlet Los Siete Reinos (as translated by "Game of Thrones" fan site Watchers on the Wall). There was a casting call that requires huge amounts of extras and horses that fit the appearances of Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) Unsullied and Dothraki army.
The casting call is looking for men with a "soldier" physique and who are willing to cut, grow, or shave their facial hair. They are also looking for men who have short/medium/long hair and women with long hair. The casting call puts a special emphasis on men with "military experience."
If it isn't obvious by now, the casting call for men with shaved beards and heads fall into the Unsullied category. The other requirements also fit the Dothraki's appearances.
HBO needs plenty of horses for the big battle scene on "Game of Thrones" Season 7, Vanity Fair reported. Given that the Dothraki are horse lords, it's highly possible that this spectacle would indeed involve Daenerys' army.
The fight scene will reportedly take place in Los Barruecos of Malpartida in Spain. There are speculations that Jeremy Podeswa would direct the episode after he was seen scouting the location earlier this summer.
But who is Daenerys' fighting? There are rumors that the Mother of Dragons would face Cersei (Lena Headey) and finally claim the Iron Throne. The Targaryens and the Lannisters have a longstanding blood feud, which started when Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) killed Daenerys' father, the Mad King Aerys. The assassination led to Daenerys fleeing King's Landing with her brother, Viserys (Harry Lloyd).
For the big battle, the Lannisters could align with the Ironborn and their leader, Euron Greyjoy, who wants to exact revenge on Daenerys after his niece Theon (Alfie Allen) and nephew Yara (Gemma Whelan) pledged their alliance to the Khaleesi. According to Bustle, it's also possible that the Martell and Tyrell houses will fight alongside Daenerys as another act of vengeance against Cersei.
If this rumor comes to fruition, the battle spectacle would feature a reunion between Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and his twin siblings, Cersei and Jaime. "Game of Thrones" Season 7 premieres on HBO in the summer of 2017.
