"Sherlock Season 4" star Benedict Cumberbatch seems to have revealed the romantic fate of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC series by creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes). Although Irene Adler (Lara Pulver) had been widely projected to make an appearance in "Sherlock Season 4" Episode 3, aka the Sherrinford episode, Benedict Cumberbatch may have spoiled an interesting future.
Fans of the BBC series would remember that, as Radio Times reports, ghosts from the past will come into "Sherlock Season 4." These "ghosts" will bring, among other things, romance as well as terror to Sherlock Holmes and friend Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) this Season 4.
From this came prediction that Irene Adler will indeed reunite with Holmes at "Sherlock Season 4" given that John Watson and wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) will be progressing into parenthood. Irene Adler - The Woman - according to the "Sherlock Holmes" canon by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the only love for the British detective.
Irene Adler first joined the BBC series in "Sherlock Season 2," "A Scandal in Belgravia." Fans saw Benedict Cumberbatch and Lara Pulver reunited onscreen in a flashback during the wedding of Mary and John Watson in "Sherlock Season 3," "The Sign Of Three."
However in a much earlier conversation between Benedict Cumberbatch and Elle UK, as cited by The Hollywood Reporter, Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler will never have their time in the sun in the BBC series. While Benedict Cumberbatch supposed that Sherlock Holmes would know how to be a lover, the BBC star told Elle UK that the detective will essentially never be romantically involved onscreen.
As Parent Herald cites, Sherlock Holmes is never intended to have any other love interest other than Irene Adler. Still given pronouncement by Benedict Cumberbatch, if Irene Adler does come out of hiding to reunite with Sherlock Holmes, they may simply reprise their bittersweet flirtation with "what might have been."
The BBC will begin the revelations on Jan 1, 2017 for "Sherlock Season 4." Do you think Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler could have been happy together or do you suppose the "Sherlock" series lead is better off alone?
