"Avatar" is a huge hit and it breaks records. In fact, the film is the number one highest grossing film of all time. Thus, the pressure in producing a sequel is intense, which perhaps is another factor of its delay. However, according to reports, James Cameron is avoiding "Star Wars 8" that is why he keeps on pushing back "Avatar 2."
James Cameron Is Avoiding 'Star Wars' So He Pushes Back 'Avatar 2'
It been over six years and counting since the first "Avatar" film hit the big screens and win every heart who witnessed the struggles and victory of the Omaticaya clan. However, after over half a decade, "Avatar 2" is still not out. According to HNGN, this is because James Cameron is avoiding to compete with another potential blockbuster film, "Star wars."
"My original plan was to release them a year apart, but we're opening that up. If for no other reason than that I don't want to land on the same date as one of the 'Star Wars' sequels," the "Avatar" director told the Wrap. "I don't want to go head-to-head with 'Star Wars.' That would be stupid. And hopefully they won't want to go head-to-head with us."
Dead Characters To Return In 'Avatar 2'
The first "Avatar" film was violent and bloody that several major characters died. However, being a science-fiction film, it is always possible to bring the dead characters back.
Per Deadline, Cameron is planning to take Stephen Lang's character, Col. Miles Quaritch back in "Avatar 2." Neytiri shot the villain with an arrow twice on his chest that leads to his death as many presumed but since the production wants the character back, it is likely that he survived the fatal attack.
Meanwhile, Parent Herald previously reported that Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) will also return in "Avatar 2." The character was a legend to the team because she penned the comprehensive book on Pandora's plant. Dr. Grace works with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) on the Avatar Program and she even has her own Avatar.
