The second season of "Lucifer" has finally begun with its first episode aired; one of the central themes in this season is Lucifer's relationship with his mother, another celestial being who has escaped hell, and his actor Tom Ellis shed some light on the subject and more of what might come in Season 2.
Zap2It recently sat down with "Lucifer" star Tom Ellis, asking him what could be in store for the show's next season as the titular character's mother escapes hell, possibly bent in vengeance towards her son. "Well, I don't think he has any plans because I don't think he really knows what she's up to," said Ellis when questioned on what his character might do in "Lucifer" season 2.
Sure enough, Lucifer and his brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) spent much of the first episode of "Lucifer" season 2 trying to hunt down the possible host of their mother among a list of recently resuscitated suspects. The whole ordeal turned out with amusing results, as TV Line reported.
Throughout episode 1 of "Lucifer" season 2, Lucifer began jumping at every thread he thought could lead to his mother's earthly identity. All the while, Lucifer believed that his mother might have escaped hell to exact her vengeance on him for what he did as vengeance on her.
The episode explained that when he was cast out for his rebellion, with the never-ending string of familial relationship issues continuing as par for the course with "Lucifer," his mother did nothing when he was thrown out of the house, so to speak. A couple thousand years later, Lucifer's mother was also thrown out and cast into hell to be imprisoned and, in an ironic act of revenge, Lucifer also did nothing to help her.
"Lucifer" season 2 episode 1 then ended with a woman stumbling into Lucifer's pad, after another brilliant musical number by Tom Ellis. The woman was then revealed to be none other than his mother, played by Tricia Helfer, and with far less murderous intent than he initially thought.
With both demonic son and mother reunited now, "Lucifer" season 2 will apparently explore more of the relationship between the two according to Ellis. "His daddy issues certainly don't go away, and his issues with mum - in Lucifer's head anyway - start to take some form of resolution early in our season. I think that there's much more than he's bargained for with his mum."
