With almost less than a week before its scheduled release, "Super Mario Run" has been making big waves. Forecasts have reportedly claimed that Nintendo's classic game will surpass "Pokemon GO" download in just 30 days. Although the game will hit smartphones in Dec. 15, the question remains whether it will be released for Android phones soon.
Sensor Tower reported that "Super Mario Run" for smartphones is forecasted to have 50 million downloads worldwide as the game is expected to roll out in 150 markets. That will be almost 56% higher than "Pokemon GO," which had 32 million downloads in the first month. If this were going to happen then this will indeed be another major hit for game maker Niantic.
However, Forbes reported that although "Super Mario Run" for smartphones will have more than the number of downloads than "Pokemon GO," its sales will not look as promising. The game is predicted to only garner a $71M initial month, which is a bit less than what "Pokemon GO" earned in July when it was a worldwide phenomenon.
This is because "Pokemon GO" received revenue from a steady stream of in-app purchases. Meanwhile, "Super Mario Run" will only rely on a $10 fee, the cost of buying the game, per Business Insider.
This makes sense: Whereas "Pokémon GO" got its cash from a steady stream of in-app purchases, "Super Mario Run" will do its business from the lone $10 fee it costs to buy the game. Still, it'd be hard to see Nintendo complaining about $71 million in one month.
But nothing is certain as of the moment because these are mere projections. We will have to wait until the game is out.
iPhone users will be able to start playing "Super Mario Run" starting Dec. 15, Thursday. While downloading the game is free, unlocking the full game will cost $99.99 for United States players, £7.99 in the United Kingdom, and AU$14.99 in Australia.
